On May 14, 2020, I sent a letter to President Trump on the website “Contact the White House.” I’m posting the letter below, and inviting others to follow suit. Perhaps we could have a separate feed or link that collects the letters for all to enjoy.

Mr. President,

I don‘t appreciate your anti-China rants. The WHO was fully informed about the Coronavirus at the start of 2020. Your Administration had scientists employed at the WHO in Geneva. China took extraordinary steps to contain the virus.

Just a reminder, AIDS originated in the US. Nobody ever referred to it as an American disease. Over the past 20 years, our armed forces inflicted unimaginable pain and sorrow on millions of innocent people in the Greater Middle East, from Libya to Afghanistan. The American people have lost all sense of self-awareness.

During this period, China lifted hundreds of millions of its people out of poverty. It engaged in infrastructure projects both in and outside China that has been the envy of the world. They built 30,000 miles of high-speed rail networks. We wasted trillions of dollars ambushing goat herders in god-forsaken dust bowls. China is not the problem. We are our own worst enemy.

Voters lose faith in leaders who abandon all objectivity and succumb to petty political crusades. As Washington runs up trillions of dollars in debt, the Chinese stand ready to bankroll this extravagance and waste. China has 1.4 billion people who could be buying our high-tech goods, medical equipment, and agricultural produce. It makes no sense to pick a fight with one’s banker and largest customer.

Sincerely and respectfully,

Albert Meyer
